Departure Bay 05-07-31

k050731 Departure Bay

In the front cockpit is Suzie, Harry's visitor from Australia. We've just launched from the beach at Departure Bay and are approaching Brandon Island.

Let's say "Hello" to Suzie as we take a closer look at the fishery research being conducted on Brandon Island.

The distinct odor of fish food/meal of some sort premeates the air as we drift by the research facility. It looks like they've got pens (nets)...

The distinct odor of fish food/meal of some sort premeates the air as we drift by the research facility. It looks like they've got pens (nets) set up in there.

From Brandon Island we look across to the Dept of Fisheries research facility in Departure Bay (opposite the BC Ferry Terminal).

Scanning the northern shore of Departure Bay...

As we leave Brandon Island, Jesse Island comes into sight.

This is a first for Suzie, although she has done whitewater in Oz.

Jesse Island ahead...

Typical sandstone patterns of the Gulf Islands...

There's a sign on Jesse Island warning of the dog. I don't know whether he's vicious, but he sure is noisey!

Once around the tip of Jesse Island, we head back into Departure Bay along the north shore of the island.

Time for a closer look at the research vessel moored on the shore across from Brandon Island.

I just can't resist pictures of boats!
